Newcastle United are preparing a deal to sign West Ham United and England goalkeeper Rob Green, according to The Sun.
Green had been expected to take his place in goal for West Ham this season as they battle for re-promotion to the Premier League.
However, Newcastle the Hammers with a deal worth £3m.
If the deal was rejected, Newcastle have a second offer to tempt West Ham, with a £1.5 million plus out of favour stopped Fraser Forster.
Forster spent last season on loan at Celtic, however is likely not to be No.1 at St James' Park this season, and could be used as a bargaining chip to bring Green to the north east.
Having already lost Kevin Nolan this summer, and with Joey Barton and Jose Enrique's future far from certain, the capture of Green would be a much needed signing for Newcastle.
A deal to bring Forster to the club would appeal to West Ham, who, if they lost Green would have Marek Stech and Ruud Boffin, who have barely a handful of first test appearances between them.
