Thomas Hitzlsperger will become the subject of a summer transfer tussle between Wolves and QPR following his release by West Ham according to the London Metro.

The 29-year-old German, nicknamed 'Der Hammer' is currently a free agent, but is hoping to return to the Barclays Premier League.

Hammers boss Sam Allardyce opted not to re-sign Hitzlsperger after the club's relegation to the Npower Championship, calling a premature end to a turbulent twelve months at Upton Park.

Hitzlsperger's spell in east London was hampered by injury, allowing him to make just 11 appearances for West Ham last season.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is understood to have spoken to the player first about a potential move to Molineux, however talks with Neil Warnock's QPR and possibly Fulham are expected to follow.

The Hoops have already completed the signing of one West Ham reject Kieron Dyer - and hope that the opportunity for Hitzlsperger to link-up with his former Hammers teammate at Loftus Road will be enough to convince him to switch to west London.
