Spurs are reaching their peak at the right time

Tottenham defender Younes Kaboul believes the squad is starting to reach peak fitness ahead of the Barclays Premier League kick-off in nine days when Harry Redknapp's side will open their campaign with the visit of Everton to White Hart Lane.

Kaboul says preparations could not have gone much better for the north Londoners so far this summer as, after a successful tour of South Africa, Spurs have played three friendlies on these shores before their final pre-season match against Athletic Bilbao on Saturday.

“We’re getting fit and that’s most important. We will improve more, we’re working hard every day and we now have a big game against Bilbao and then it’s the start of the season," Kaboul told the official Spurs website. "We’re all preparing for that.”

Reflecting on the side's penultimate friendly, a 3-2 win against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium on Saturday, Kaboul admits he was taken aback by the quality of last season's Npower League One winners.

Managed by former Spurs midfielder Gus Poyet, the Seagulls will be hoping for a strong performance in the second tier next term, and Kaboul believes they provided his teammates with an ideal workout.

“It wasn’t easy for us. They are very good team with clever movement and played well in the first half," the defender concluded.

"We were a little surprised but we reacted well, scored and that put us back in the game. After that we showed our quality and won the game.”
