Tottenham Hotspur are planning to offer Robbie Keane and Sebastien Bassong in exchange for defender Chris Samba, according to the Guardian.

The Blackburn Rovers defender is much coveted through out the Premier League, with even Arsenal reportedly interested in prising Samba away from Ewood Park.

However, Tottenham are planning to usurp any bid from their north London rivals with a double swap deal involving Keane and Bassong, who are both expected to leave the club this summer.

The deal would reportedly involve a fee of £6m, and with Rovers' squad wafer thin, is expected to make them likely to accept the offer to allow a second defender leave the club this summer, following Phil Jones' move to Manchester United.

After releasing Jonathan Woodgate, and with Ledley Kind's injuries worries still fresh, Tottenham are expected to invest in their defence this summer.

Gary Cahill has been strongly linked with a move to Tottenham, however talk of Samba's move has swelled in recent weeks.
