Manchester United winger Gabriel Obertan is to undergo a medical at Newcastle later today, according to reports.
The French winger was heavily linked with a move to St. James' Park at the end of last week, and Magpies boss Alan Pardew confirmed over the weekend that the club were looking to secure the deal this week.
"All being well, the deal will be pushed through next week," said the Newcastle United boss.
"He has not really had the chance to shine at Old Trafford but he has pace to burn and will bring some much needed sharpness to our side."
The Metro claims the 22-year-old will look to complete his medical today before agreeing personal terms and confirming the move to Newcastle for an undisclosed fee later in the week.
United brought the winger to England for £3 million from Bordeaux back in 2009, but Obertan has had limited opportunities to show his talents at Old Trafford since the move.
Newcastle United will hope to get the best out of a player once seen as the future of French football, although the protracted move has not captured the imagination of the Tyneside faithful, who fear the club have failed to adequately replace Kevin Nolan.
