Long-term Arsenal target Per Mertesacker has revealed he's excited by the possibility of moving to England.
The German international centre back has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates in the past, with Arsene Wenger a known admirer of the towering 26-year-old.
Thought to be on the Arsenal radar earlier in the summer, the rumours had gone quiet as the Gunners turned their attentions to England international pairing Gary Cahill and Phil Jagielka.
However, the omission from the Werder Bremen defender is likely to trigger Wenger's interest in the player once again, with SkySports claiming that £6 million could be enough to secure Mertesacker's services.
"For a national player it is a good thing to get experience of playing abroad," he told Bild newspaper.
"I have said that England excites me."
The quotes come just a day after Bremen’s sporting director Klaus Allofs confirmed the club would be willing to listen to offers for the Arsenal target after discussions with the player.
"We are willing to discuss a transfer for Per," Allofs is reported as saying in The Sunday People.
"We have promised him we will listen to serious offers."
With Thomas Vermaelen suffering an injury in the Gunners' 2-1 pre-season defeat to Benfica on Saturday, the need for a player in the position has once again increased at the Emirates, and an Arsenal bid is now a realistic possibility if reports are to be believed.
