Bristol City's Tuesday night Carling Cup clash with Swindon at Ashton Gate has been postponed in the wake of overnight riots.
Following the violence in London, trouble spread to other cities including Birmingham, Liverpool and Bristol.
City chairman Colin Sexstone told the club's official website: "It's disappointing but we totally understand the reasons given by the police. Clearly the most important factor is people's safety and these are exceptional circumstances the police are dealing with."
Several games in the capital have been cancelled on police advice and this is also the case with City's game against their League Two opponents
