Tottenham have reportedly been priced-out of the race for Lassana Diarra after Real Madrid demanded £20 million to prise the midfielder away from the Santiago Bernabeu.
According to The Sun, the north Londoners are prepared to part with £14 million to secure the signature of Diarra, but have no intention of meeting Real's valuation.
This is likely to force Harry Redknapp to turn his attention elsewhere in his pursuit of midfielder reinforcements, with Wilson Palacios set to join Stoke and Sandro sidelined for around two months.
The Spurs boss is alleged to have identified Diarra as the ideal player to fill the void, but the former Arsenal enforcer is unlikely to seal a return to north London.
Missing out on the France international could encourage Spurs to reignite their interest in Scott Parker, with Redknapp an outed admirer of the West Ham talisman.
However, Spurs have also been reluctant to meet the demands of the Hammers, who will only sell the 30-year-old should a sufficient offer be tabled.
West Ham are reported to want close to £10 million for Parker - who has four years left on his contract at Upton Park - but Spurs are only willing to pay half of that to bring him to White Hart Lane.
