Arsenal set for long awaited defender signing - reports

Arsenal are set to bring an end to their defensive woes by signing Lorient defender Bruno Ecuele Manga, according to France Football.

Arsene Wenger's attempts to signet he likes of Gary Cahill and Phil Jagielka are stalling.

The Gabon centre-back, who plugged the gap at Lorient left by Laurent Koscielny, who signed for Arsenal last summer, is 23 years old.

Fiorentina are known to have been tracking Manga, but it is Arsenal's need that is the greatest.

The club saw defensive issues undermine their challenge for the league title, the FA Cup and the Champions League, while Koscielny's error in the Carling Cup final saw Arsenal denied their first trophy in six years.
