Hamburg general manager Frank Arnesen has revealed that the club have rejected a bid from Juventus for Chelsea target Eljero Elia, but Arnesen insists they are hoping to hold onto their star winger.
"We do not want to lose Eljero Elia and we also have no need to sell him. He is a very important player of our team,” Arnesen told the club’s official website.
"We have rejected the official bid received from Juventus."
Chelsea have been connected to Elia on numerous occasions, over the past few years.
After Andre Villas-Boas signed on as Chelsea manager this summer, it was thought he would begin making some big money signings almost immediately, but so far that hasn’t been the case.
Chelsea look set to sign Romelu Lukaku this week, and fresh reports are speculating that Elia might be on Villas-Boas’ wish list as well, before the transfer window finishes at the end of this month.
Elia has three years left on his contract, and the rejected bid from Juventus was worth around £6 million, according to Sky Sports.
