Arsenal are reportedly making a concerted effort to ease their defensive issues by approaching Birmingham regarding the proposed signing of Scott Dann.

According to Goal.com, the north London club are in 'advanced talks' with the Blues and have tabled a bid for his services in the region of £6 million.

It is claimed, however, that Birmingham are holding out for a fee closer to £10 million, but whether or not Arsenal make a second offer remains unclear.

The acquisition of a dominant centre-back with Barclays Premier League experience has been identified by Arsene Wenger as a summer priority, and Dann could provide the Arsenal boss with what his is after.

The 24-year-old - who is also being courted by Liverpool and Stoke - excelled for Birmingham during their two-season stint in the top-flight and, although unable to save them from relegation, gathered plenty of admirers.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have also been linked with Phil Jagielka and Chris Samba in their pursuit of defensive reinforcements.
