Cabaye looking to fine Toon start

Newcastle summer signing Yohan Cabaye says he already feels at home with the Toon, and is raring to get into the season opener against Arsenal this weekend and then play cross-town rivals Sunderland.

Cabaye was signed by the club in June, and is one of four stars to make a move to the Toon so far this summer. The midfielder joins fellow Frenchmen Gabriel Obertan, Sylvain Marveaux and Mehdi Abeid in a fight for selection on Saturday.

And Cabaye, who won the Ligue 1 title with Lille last season, is hoping to repeat his top class performances for the French outfit in the Barclays Premier League.

"I love passing the ball, the passing game," Cabaye said. "I love having the ball at my feet, shooting at goal, defending, tackling and sometimes I score goals, too. Newcastle have a proud history of attacking football and I relate to that. I adore that.

"For three years at Lille, we worked hard at playing that kind of football and it brought us the championship.

"I hope it is the same at Newcastle. Looking after the ball is the best way to play the game, because you have the pressure, the advantage."

The 25-year-old said that he is aware of the club's long-standing rivalry with the Black Cats, and is looking forward to seeing the atmosphere when the adversaries face off.

"The word 'Sunderland' has already been mentioned. We play them in the second game of the season and we know it is going to be huge," he added.

"It is a tough start: Arsenal first, then Sunderland and we hope to start well. It is important we start well at home.

"When I was Lille we had a fierce rivalry with Lens – the first thing we did when the fixture list came out was to look and see when we were playing each other. If you win those two matches, then you have already had a very good season.

"We want to get a good head start by the time we have played Arsenal, because that will give us great confidence when we are playing Sunderland."
