Nouveau-riche Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly ramped up their pursuit of Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov.

According to Yahoo Sport, PSG director of football Leonardo has been in contact with Berbatov via telephone to discuss his thoughts over a potential move to the Parc des Princes.

Berbatov has been consistently linked with switch to PSG in recent weeks, with the French outfit reported to be contemplating an £18 million bid for the Bulgarian.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson appeared to confirm Berbatov could indeed leave Old Trafford during the transfer window, although has since claimed he was misquoted.

Despite ending last season as United's top goalscorer, the Berbatov was restricted to mainly substitute appearances during the second half of the campaign, thanks to the rapid rise of Javier Hernandez.

Berbatov even found himself omitted from the match day squad for the Champions League final against Barcelona, and has since been tipped to leave United.
