Wenger shows interest in Marseille playmaker - reports

Arsenal have reportedly identified Marseille playmaker Mathieu Valbuena as a potential replacement for either Cesc Fabregas of Samir Nasri.

According to The Guardian, the north London club are keen on the diminutive Frenchman, while they are also tracking Eden Hazard, Juan Mata and Jadson.

Arsene Wenger has been outed as an admirer of Valbuena in the past, and the interest of the Arsenal boss could be hastened by the imminent exits of Fabregas and Nasri.

Arsenal stand to make upwards of £60 million from the proposed sales of the midfield duo and, it has been claimed, Wenger will be allowed to invest the majority of this on reinforcing his squad.

Valbuena, 26, is able to operate through the middle or on the wing - similarly to Nasri - and would provide Arsenal with a versatile option in their quest to end a six year spell without a trophy.

However, it has been reported that Mata and Jadson remain Arsenal's top targets in terms of replacements for Nasri and Fabregas, although the latter may struggle to gain a work permit.

Jadson, a Brazil international, has failed to play in the requisite number of matches for his country over the past two years, which could provide a stumbling block for Arsenal.
