Southend chalked up their second league win of the season with Ryan Hall firing home the winner in a 2-1 victory at Accrington.

The Shrimpers won a penalty in the first minute for a push by Kevin McIntyre on Anthony Grant and Liam Dickinson calmly slotted home his first goal for Southend from the spot.

After that it was all the visitors with Ryan Leonard firing over in a good position and winger Hall having a fierce strike saved by Stanley keeper Sean Murdoch.

However, with Stanley's first shot on 40 minutes, left back McIntyre's 25-yard free kick was spilled by keeper Glen Morris into the path of skipper Andy Procter who tapped home from four yards out.

There were few chances in the second half but Southend regained the lead on 67 minutes when, from a goal kick, Neil Harris's ball into the box was not dealt with and Hall stole in front of the defence 10 yards out to hook the ball in the top of the net.

Accrington were reduced to 10 men when McIntyre was sent off in injury time firstly for a foul on Grant and then for protesting in quick succession - and there was still time for Procter to lash a strike against the crossbar in the dying seconds.
