Morecambe opened their League Two account with an impressive 3-0 victory over Hereford at Edgar Street.

First-half goals from Danny Carlton and Phil Jevons earned Morecambe's second away win in four days, after they knocked Barnsley out of the Carling Cup.

Midfielder Stewart Drummond added the third in the 63rd minute when he lashed the ball into the net from 18 yards.

The deadlock was broken in the 37th minute when Carlton beat his marker Stefan Stam before rifling the ball through the hands of Adam Bartlett into the net.

The Shrimps went further ahead on the stroke of half-time when Jevons drilled a low drive into the far corner after Michael Townsend had brought down Carlton just outside the penalty area.

Morecambe's third came in the 63rd minute when a corner from Laurence Wilson was headed back across the goalmouth by Gary McDonald to Drummond, who blasted it past Bartlett for the Shrimps' third.
