With every cloud there is a silver lining - that is in the opinion of Leighton Baines, who is trying to take the positives from the delay to the start of Everton's 2011-12 Barclays Premier League season.
The postponement of Saturday's away trip to Tottenham due to the London riots was met with frustration by Toffees players and fans alike, but the decision taken by the authorities received the full backing of everybody involved.
And the fact that the game has been rescheduled means that David Moyes' squad will now get to kick off the new campaign in front of a home crowd when Queens Park Rangers visit Goodison Park next weekend.
"Your first home game is always a bit of a moment and with it now being our first game of the season it is something of a consolation for us having missed out this weekend," said Baines. "I am sure there will be a great atmosphere for that one.
"We were waiting on the news and, like everyone else, just sort of hoping it would be on. The start of the Premier League season is exciting so we were disappointed to hear we were not going to be involved.
"But when you put everything into perspective then the authorities have made the right decision. Football is not the most important thing and the game will be replayed at some point when everything has settled down."
The 26-year-old England defender had also been due to face Holland at Wembley on Wednesday night in the build-up to Saturday's season opener, before that game was also cancelled.
And Baines was left doubly disappointed as news filtered through about Everton's ill-fated fixture at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
"That was disappointing," he added. "We were out training and getting ready the day before the [England] game when we heard it was off. So hearing this game was off as well made it a bit of a double blow.
"I don't seem to be able to get a game anywhere at the moment!" he joked. "But we will just have to be professional and carry on preparing for the season and then next week we will start focusing on the QPR game."
