Alex McLeish could be about to lose another player as Aston Villa’s Luke Young attracts the attention of Fulham, according to the Daily Mirror.

Martin Jol’s side are eyeing up the right back after John Paintsil left for Leicester City after his contract ran out in June.

Fulham's Aaron Hughes can play as full back, as can Chris Baird and Stephen Kelly, but the Mirror reports that Jol wants a permanent replacement.

Luke Young’s namesake Ashley Young and left-winger Stewart Downing left the club this summer, and the 32-year-old’s departure would be another headache for manager Alex McLeish.


 

Villa and Fulham played a tetchy stalemate on Saturday, with Young playing the full 90 minutes. It's reported that Jol was impressed with what he saw at Craven Cottage.

An injury during the first year of Young’s contract put first team action out of reach to begin with, but last season Young made a regular impact for Villa and has now made a total of 73 appearances for the club.

In last year’s transfer window Young turned down a move to Liverpool in order to secure first team action, and this will still undoubtedly be the number one priority for the England international with 7 caps to his name.
