Lyon have told Newcastle they have to pay more than £7 million for left-back Aly Cissokho, according to The Sun.

Cissokho has starred for Lyon since signing for the club in 2009. Liverpool were said to be chasing the 23-year-old, but after the Mersyside club landed Jose Enrique, Alan Pardew has been on the lookout for a replacement.

Newcastle have a large transfer kitty, acquired after the sale of Andy Carroll and January, and also Kevin Nolan and Enrique this summer. The club have spent just over £7 million this summer on transfer fees, bringing in Gabriel Obertan and Yohan Cabaye.

But Newcastle still want to bring a striker into the club, as well as a replacement left-back for Enrique, and Pardew is reportedly hopeful of wrapping up a full squad as soon as possible.

While Lyon have been reluctant to let go of their star, Cissokho is said to have handed in a transfer request after becoming aware of Newcastle’s interest.
