Chelsea are set to make a huge title statement by bidding for both Juan Mata and Luka Modric, according to The Daily Mail.

After seeing The Blues slump to a drab goalless draw with Stoke City, Andre Villas-Boas is keen to inject some creativity into his side.

And he sees Mata, a former target of Arsenal, and Luka Modric as the ideal pair to reignite Chelsea's title bid.

Chelsea are seen as outsiders for the title behind Manchester Untied and Manchester City.

But a bid worth in the region of £60 million could help bring in two of Europe's star creative forces.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has already admitted that the sale of Modric would release vital funds for him to improve his squad, leaving Chelsea with the upper hand in a race to secure a deal.
