While Arsenal's extensive injury list means Arsene Wenger's side go into their opening home Barclays Premier League game of the season against Liverpool with a depleted squad, Emmanuel Frimpong is looking to take his chance with both hands.
With Alex Song starting a three match suspension after his stamp on Joey Barton, and Jack Wilshere expected to miss out, along with the sale of Cesc Fabregas, leaves the Gunners short in midfield.
However Frimpong, who made his first Arsenal appearance in last weekend's draw with Newcastle United is hoping to make an impact if given the opportunity to fill in.
“I just want to be involved as much as possible,” Frimpong said.
“It is going to be hard because there are so many players at Arsenal but hopefully I can play as many games as I can. It is difficult because I am at a very big club and I have got to be patient."
Frimpong was also involved in the club's Champions League first leg play off against Udinese, and following disappointment in the same competition just a year ago, the 19-year-old senses renewed optimism among the Arsenal ranks.
“It’s a new season, a new start and an opportunity for us to show what we can do,” he said.
“Obviously there was a lot of disappointment last year but there is an opportunity to put that right. I have to say, everyone is confident that this is going to be a good season.”
