Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has praised the 'complete performance' of his side after they fought to a goalless draw against the Spaniard’s former club Swansea City.

But the 38-year-old, who began his managerial career at the Liberty Stadium, added that the Latics deserved the win despite the stiff competition.

"Any point you pick up away from home is a valuable one and today we had to work very hard for the one we've come away with,” he said.

"In the first-half we did well to soak-up the Swansea pressure and grow into the game a lot more after the break which was reflected in us hitting the woodwork twice and winning a penalty - you don't get those opportunities every week, you have to earn them.

"Overall I felt we deserved the three points but I'm very happy at how we dealt with the difficult situations that faced us against a team who have been playing together for a long time and make life very difficult for the opposition

"We played the 90 minutes in a very different way than normal and it was encouraging to see that maturity in our play which allowed us to defend well and find weaknesses in the Swansea team.

"In that respect it was a very complete performance; it always positive to keep a clean sheet away from home and we created enough chances to win the game."

Martinez also commented on the injuries that are already pilling up at this early stage of the season.

"Antolin is the big worry,” he began. “Perhaps today we forced him back into the team a little too early and I have to take full responsibility for that. He's picked up a soft-tissue injury.

"There are certain things you can't control like losing Antolin Alcaraz to injury and Victor Moses picking up a knock late on, but we came away with a point and now we'll get ready for Saturday."

Moses had a tight groin towards the end of Saturday’s fixture, but Martinez hopes that the promising forward will return to action for next weekend’s home game against QPR.
