Liverpool are hoping that the chance to play alongside Uruguayan teammate Luis Suarez will coax Sebastian Coates into joining the Merseyside club this summer, according to the Daily Mirror.
Coates was a member of the Uruguay team that won the Copa America this year, and the 20-year-old has attracted attention from numerous European clubs since the tournament.
The defender said that he wants to leave Brazilian club Nacional, with the South American telling reporters: "I will surely wear the historical shirt of a great club soon.”
While Coates said he would like to join a club that can offer Champions League football, Liverpool are hoping that playing alongside Luis Suarez, as well as the chance to be part of a long-term plan to challenge for trophies in England and Europe, may sway the star to move.
But with competition from Manchester City, Juventus, Lazio, Porto and Benficia, Liverpool are moving quickly in the hopes of sealing the deal in the next few days.
Should Coates make the move to Liverpool, Kenny Dalglish's spending will go up to over £60 million for the summer, with the star said to be worth around £10 million.
