PSV Eindhoven left-back Erik Pieter’s representative has said that a deal for the star to move to Newcastle is close to being completed.

Pieters was seen by Alan Pardew as a replacement for the departed Jose Enrique, and in some good news for the club, Piet van der Pol believes the deal will go through.

"I don't know the exact numbers of Newcastle's offer, but I'm pretty sure that the transfer will go ahead,” van der Pol said.

Pieters is said to be worth £8 million, according to Sky Sports, and the move will shore up at least one of Newcastle’s transfer targets over the next week.

The Toon are also connected to numerous French strikers, including Brest striker Nolan Roux and Sochaux shooter Modibo Maiga, with Newcastle hoping to find a replacement for Andy Carroll, who left the club for Liverpool in January.
