Lyon have given Newcastle a Friday deadline to sign defender Aly Cissokho, it has been claimed.
According to The Journal, the French club say Friday is the 'do or die' day for any potential deal, which gives the Magpies little time to decide whether or not they want to make a formal offer.
It was alleged earlier this week that Lyon had informed Newcastle they must pay £10 million to sign the 23-year-old France international, who has been identified as one of a number of potential options to replace Jose Enrique.
The Spaniard joined Liverpool earlier this month, which has forced Newcastle into a concerted effort to sign a successor.
PSV Eindhoven Erik Pieters appears to be the player most likely to fill the gap left by Enrique at St James' Park, and the Holland international's representatives said on Thursday that they expected a deal would be concluded.
Meanwhile, Newcastle are reportedly pursuing FC Brest striker Nolan Roux, having given up on Sochaux forward Madibo Maiga.
