Petr Cech has confirmed he is on track to recover from his knee injury inside the original timescale he was given by club doctors, which could mean the Chelsea goalkeeper's return will be against Manchester United.

The 29-year-old has been out of action since picking up a knee injury during training last week, and was expected to be missing for at least a month.

However, Cech's rehabilitation has been progressing nicely up until this point, and he is confident he will back in action sooner that originally predicted, with United awaiting on September 18.

"The rehabilitation is going according to plan," Cech told his personal website.

"I don't want to jinx anything but it seems that I should be ready to return to action inside the original timescale.

"I have been getting various forms of treatment and have been working on my fitness.

"I have been in the gym and catching a few balls, even though I can only do it sitting down. The main reason for doing that work is so I don't miss out on the practice."
