Boyata bound for Bolton

Bolton have confirmed the signing of defender Dedryck Boyata from Manchester City on a season-long loan deal.

The 20-year-old Belgium international has found first-team opportunities limited at the Etihad Stadium with the likes of Vincent Kompany, Joleon Lescott and Stefan Savic among those competing for starting berths.

He is looking forward to getting the chance for regular football, as well as working with Trotters boss Owen Coyle. He told the club website www.bwfc.co.uk: "I'm really looking forward to working with the manager. I have seen how he got the best out of young players like Jack Wilshere and Daniel Sturridge."

Boyata added: "I am only 20 years old and I am still learning and want to improve. To come to Bolton Wanderers for a loan period is a great opportunity to do that."

The move comes as Coyle hit out at a bid from Arsenal for centre-half Gary Cahill, saying the Gunners' offer was "a million miles short" of Bolton's valuation.

While the move may suggest a deal for England international Cahill could yet be done, Coyle is just glad to have made his sixth acquisition of the transfer window.

He said: "I am delighted that we have completed the loan deal for Dedryck, because there was interest from a number of other clubs in taking him on loan.

"He is a tremendous addition to the squad and his versatility means he can operate at centre-half and full-back.

"He has got pace and power and is a flexible and dynamic player."
