Franco Di Santo's double earned Wigan a fine 2-0 Barclays Premier League victory at the DW Stadium as QPR new boy Joey Barton watched from the stands.
Di Santo smashed home a right-foot effort five minutes before the break and put the result beyond doubt after 66 minutes with a looping, deflected effort over Paddy Kenny.
Rangers had their chances with Adel Taarabt slamming a long-range effort against the post when the game was goalless, and repeating the feat deep in first-half injury time.
