Hard work pays off for Parry

Tranmere boss Les Parry saw his side cruise to a comfortable 2-0 win at Brentford and admitted: "Our homework paid off".

The visitors romped to an away win thanks to goals from Robbie Weir and Andy Robinson either side of the break but it was a scouting mission which Parry hailed as the reason for the three points which keeps his side flying high in League One.

"We watched Brentford a few times this season and they always try to play the ball out from defence. But we closed them down around the edge of their own box and dispossessed them at least half a dozen times - we just didn't let them play," he said.

"We also got our goals at good times in the game and the second one a minute after the break knocked the stuffing out of Brentford and from then on they didn't cause us too many problems. It was all down to the homework we did and two days training on closing the defenders down."

Brentford boss Uwe Rosler admitted that at times during the second half his side's performance was "embarrassing".

He said: "Initially you have to earn the right to play good passing football and we didn`t do that in this game. Credit to Tranmere - they closed us down whenever we had the ball and out-muscled us and I felt that in the second half it was a little bit embarrassing because we didn`t play anywhere near as well as we can.

"I've only been here eight weeks and we are just at the beginning and we have to expect that along the way we will get results like this."

Rosler added: "I was disappointed with our resolve when we went two behind and disappointed because I wanted to go the whole season unbeaten at home. That`s not going to happen now but more concerning was the fact that we didn`t make the right choices on the ball.

"We came up against an experienced side here and against Sheffield United and we didn't do very well there so we may have to look at changing the way we play in future."
