Liverpool have made contact with Fiorentina over the availability of Juan Manuel Vargas, according to reports in Italy.
Sportmediaset claim the Reds are the latest club to take a serious interest in the 28-year-old, nicknamed El Loco, and have been in touch with the Serie 'A' side with regards to the player.
Liverpool were first linked with the Peruvian international back in January following the arrival of Kenny Dalglish in January, with the Anfield outfit thought to be keen on adding the player as a left back.
Despite the arrival of Jose Enrique on Merseyside, the versatile wing back, who can also play in a more advanced midfield position, is still thought to be on the Liverpool radar.
Vargas has made 80 top flight appearances for the Viola in Italy after signing for €12 million from Catania back in 2008.
After 24 games and four goals last term, the player's future at the Stadio Artemio Franchi now appears in doubt, with Liverpool the only Barclays Premier League club thought to currently be in the race.
It remains unclear as to if Fiorentina are willing to listen to offers from Liverpool, or any club, for Vargas' services.
