Alan Pardew is ready to pay £5 million for Italian full-back Davide Santon, according to the Daily Star, as the transfer window enters it’s final three days.
After Jose Enrique departed St James’ Park for Liverpool this summer, Pardew has been desperately trying to find a replacement for the left-back.
And while Newcastle had been lining up Erik Pieters, Pardew has now reportedly turned his attentions to Santon after a possible deal with the PSV Eindhoven star collapsed.
Santon’s agent Claudio Vigorelli admitted yesterday that the 20-year-old has put Newcastle first on his list of clubs to join this summer, and representatives are working on a deal for the move to be completed.
"At this time, there is no possibility that Santon can join Roma because right now the aim is Newcastle,” Vigorelli said of speculation surrounding the star.
Santon has been a registered Inter Milan player since 2008, and the Italian moved to Serie A side Cesena on loan this year.
Newcastle are still on the lookout for a striker, along with a replacement for Enrique, and Pardew will no doubt be working overtime to get multiple deals done by the time the window closes on Wednesday.
