Chelsea are close to securing a deal with Uruguayan defender Alvaro Pereira, according to Goal.com, after talks resumed with Porto over a move for the midfielder.
Disagreements over a fee for Pereira were said to be holding up a deal, with Andre Villas-Boas bidding €20 million and Porto president Pinto da Costa hoping fro closer to €30 million.
But with an offer closer to the €30 million region, along with bonuses based on Pereira’s performance at Chelsea, sources believe that an agreement is close to being finalised for Pereira’s signature.
Pereira has starred at Porto, and particularly since Villas-Boas took over the managerial post at the Portugese club, the midfielder has taken the side to win the treble.
And after Villas-Boas moved to Chelsea, transfer speculation grew that Pereira would follow the manager to England.
The 25-year-old, who played alongside Liverpool star striker Luis Suarez in Uruguay’s Copa America triumph, could move to Chelsea as soon as today, the website reports, as the transfer window enters it’s final days.
