Manchester United striker Federico Macheda is looking likely to head to Newcastle on loan this season, according to his agent.
While Sir Alex Ferguson said recently that no forwards would be leaving the club on loan this season, with an overload of strikers the manager is reportedly looking to allow Macheda to build up more game time elsewhere.
"Macheda doesn't return to Italy, Manchester United will send him on loan in the Premier League," Macheda’s agent Giovanni Bia told calciomercato.com.
"At this time, Newcastle has the edge over Queens Park Rangers."
Newcastle have been searching for a striker since Andy Carroll left the Toon for Liverpool last January.
Deals with Mevlut Erdinc and Nolan Roux have fallen through, and while the north east club have targeted Sochaux striker Modibo Maiga, Alan Pardew is said to be hopeful that Macheda will provide some depth in the Newcastle squad.
Macheda spent the second half of last season away from Manchester United, and with the starlet looking likely to receive very little game time this season, Ferguson is ready to let him out on loan from United once more.
