Porto star Alvaro Pereira is close to sealing a move to Chelsea, with the winger’s agent confirming last minute talks are taking place.
Since Andre Villas-Boas left Porto this summer, the manager has been connected with numerous transfer targets at his old club. And Pereira has emerged to be the number one priority for Villas-Boas to bring to Stamford Bridge.
The 25-year-old is said by Sky Sports to be worth £26 million, and Chelsea are reportedly happy to repeat their deadline day big spending and fork out the high fee to bring the Uruguay international on board.
And now Pereira’s agent Alejandro Savich has confirmed that discussions are taking place and a deal could be finalised with Chelsea today.
"I know that the clubs are talking. This is a positive sign. What I know from Chelsea is that they are trying. One can only hope," Savich told Maisfutebol.
"It's a lie to suggest he has ever refused to play for FC Porto or taken some action. You know that Alvaro always gave everything. He's played more than one hundred games. This cannot be questioned.
"Right now, Alvaro Pereira is waiting while the clubs talk. We have not spoken with Chelsea because I'm not allowed to do so. It is essential Porto and Chelsea reach an agreement first.
"Alvaro has enough international appearances for Uruguay to play in England. But the fact that he doesn't have an EU passport compromises the interest of Barcelona, AC Milan and Inter Milan."
Chelsea have made six signings so far this summer, and Juan Mata is the oldest at 23-years-old.
