Leeds United are ready to make a deadline day move for Coventry City captain Sammy Clingan, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The City midfielder has been on the radar at Elland Road, and would potentially form a partnership in midfielder with United’s own captain Jonny Howson.

Clingan is out of contract next summer and United will hope the club can finalise in time to beat the 11pm transfer deadline.

Leeds have already lost the likes of Kasper Schmeichel and Max Gradel this summer, with Billy Painter potentially on his way to Brighton and Hove Albion.

The club have also cancelled the contract of Mike Grella, leaving Leeds’ striking options are short on the ground.
