Arsenal the big winners on deadline day

- The transfer window finally closed last night, with over £400 million spent.

- Arsenal were the big spenders on the final day, having agreed a £10 million deal for Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta and confirming the signings of Andre Santos and Per Mertesacker.

- Yossi Benayoun also joins on loan from Chelsea, while Nicklas Bendtner will spend the rest of the season with Sunderland.

- Raul Meireles has joined Chelsea for around £12 million, having handed Liverpool a late transfer request on Thursday night.

- But Andre Villas-Boas failed in his attempts to sign Alvaro Pereira and Luka Modric.

- Tottenham failed in a late bid to bring Gary Cahill to White Hart Lane, but did sign Scott Parker from West Ham.

- Out of White Hart Lane when Peter Crouch and Wilson Palacios, with both joining Stoke City. Meanwhile, Alan Hutton and Jermaine Jenas joined Aston Villa, and David Bentley went on-loan to West Ham.

- Manchester City wrapped up the signing of former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves on a free transfer.

- Carlos Tevez remains at the Etihad Stadium after no club managed to match City's valuation.

- Liverpool completed the signing of Craig Bellamy from City, following that of Uruguayan defender Sebastian Coates the previous day.


- Joe Cole leaves the club for Ligue 1 champions Lille on a season long loan, while Christian Poulsen also moves to France with Evian.

- QPR sealed the £2 million signing of Anton Ferdinand from Sunderland. Shaun Wright-Phillips also completed a switch to Loftus Road.

- Bolton managed to keep hold of Gary Cahill, while also bringing Gael Kakuta and David N'gog to the Reebok Stadium.

- Blackburn wrapped up late deals for Scott Dann and Yakubu.

- Everton sold Jermaine Beckford to Leicester, while they signed Royston Drenthe from Real Madrid on loan.
