Newcastle have a ‘good chance’ of making a bid for Modibo Maiga in the January transfer window, according to the Journal.
Sochaux turned down a deal for Maiga, with chairman Alexander Lacombe reasoning that he couldn’t find a replacement for the striker.
"If we had found a successor, he would have gone," Lacombe said.
"If we find a replacement in December then, yes he could leave in the winter."
Newcastle failed in their bid to get hold of a striker in the summer window, but Pardew is reportedly already planning to make a swoop in January, in the hopes of appeasing fans.
But Newcastle fans will still no doubt be angry at the situation at their club, with Pardew insisting at the start of the window that a striker position would be fulfilled.
Deals with Bryan Ruiz and Liam Ridgewell were also attempted at the last minute after Newcastle failed in their pursuit of Maiga, but it was a case of too little too late for the north east side.
