Chelsea’s deadline day signing Raul Meireles says his craving for a move to Stamford Bridge was born out of wanting to succeed at the highest level, rather than for financial reasons.
The signing of the likes of Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam has pushed Meireles down the pecking order at Liverpool, and once Chelsea’s interest was lodged for the Portuguese playmaker, the 28-year-old handed in a transfer request.
However, Meireles has moved to quash rumors that his move was financially motivated and reveals he’s ready to win trophies in west London.
"These are things that happen in football. I can only say good things about Liverpool, it was a fantastic year," Meireles said.
"People think I am a Judas and that it was because of the money. It was not because of that, I will explain it later, things are still fresh.
"It all happened very fast. I am not the only one to blame for my exit from Liverpool, but I will never stop loving the club and I have great friends there."
The former Porto man is also delighted that anther man formerly of Porto, in Andre Villas-Boas took the punt on the midfielder.
"I was very happy with his interest in my signature," added Meireles. "The most important thing is to give my all every time and try to help Chelsea win titles."
