Chelsea target Neymar has been urged to join Real Madrid by Brazilian legend Ronaldo.

The Santos starlet was heavily linked with a move away from his homeland this summer, with the cream of Europe keen on the 19-year-old's signature.

Andre Villas-Boas' side are reportedly leading the English charge as they look to bring the player to Stamford Bridge, but Ronaldo is certain the player can flourish in Spain.

"I hope he goes to Real Madrid, where I spent five years. I think it would be better for him. Brazil has become too small for Neymar," said the former World Player of the Year.

"This is his moment and he needs to have the ambition to conquer the world, rather than just be the best in Brazil."

The quotes will come as a blow to Chelsea, who have set their sights on the teenager as another young player to add to their ranks.

Villas-Boas spent big to bring talented youngsters to west London in the summer transfer window, with Romelu Lukaku and Juan Mata costing Chelsea in excess of £40 million.

Neymar would be seen as the jewel in the Chelsea crown, but the Blues now face a battle if they are to land the young prodigy.
