MK Dons midfielder Stephen Gleeson has upped the ante for the rest of League One, claiming his side are better than last year's champions Brighton.

The Seagulls amassed 95 points last term as they waltzed to the title but Gleeson believes the Dons are on course to emulate that.

He told MK News: "I don't think Brighton are as good as us. I think we're better than Brighton were last year and hopefully it can continue."

Gleeson added: "I think the way we are playing now shows every player we have signed is worthy of being here.

"This is a big club and we want to get into the Championship this year. We're not hiding it at all. The way we are playing at the moment, even though it's the start of September, I don't think we'll be far off."

Gleeson also outlined he intends to be playing in the Championship next season, whether the Dons get promoted or not.

He added: "I want to play in the Championship and the chairman and the gaffer know that. If it's with this club great, if not then I don't know what's going to happen."
