Arsenal reportedly dispatched scouts to compile a report on Riccardo Montolivo as Italy faced Slovenia on Friday night.
According to TMW, representatives from the north London club were in the stands at the Stadio Artemio Franchi as Montolivo helped the Azzurri triumph 1-0 in Florence.
The 26-year-old playmaker has been linked with Arsenal for a number of months, and could become an eventual successor to former Gunners skipper Cesc Fabregas.
Arsene Wenger is known to be an admirer of Montolivo, although whether or not the Arsenal boss made a summer attempt to sign the midfielder is unclear.
Arsenal did, however, manage to seal deadline day deals for Mikel Arteta and Yossi Benayoun, who could be in line to make their debuts for the club against Swansea on Saturday.
Fiorentina, meanwhile, are hoping Montolivo will commit to a new contract, and discussions are expected to begin in the coming weeks.
