Tottenham Hotspur full-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto believes summer loan signing Emmanuel Adebayor can prove the doubters wrong.
Drafted in from Manchester City on a season-long deal, the Togolese international's connections to Arsenal have made his welcome at White Hart Lane a little frosty from the fans.
However, Assou-Ekotto is in no doubt that the striker can quickly turn the Spurs fans around with some big performances for the club, and is hoping the crowd instantly get behind his new teammate.
"I don't think there will be any trouble with the Spurs fans and Emmanuel," Assou-Ekotto told skysports.com.
"The fans when they come to the stadium they come to watch football and give their best to the team and I am sure they will support Emmanuel.
"For sure when he used to play for Arsenal the fans did not like him, but for us everyone will love him if he scores 25 goals this season. Emmanuel is a great player and I believe he will be a great signing for Spurs this season."
Adebayor is under no illusions of what is needed to be a success under Harry Redknapp this season himself though, with a place in the Champions League the immediate target in north London.
"I'm not saying we're playing to win the league, we're playing for the top four, which is not going to be easy but we've got the squad now," he told The Sun.
