Leon Clarke is expected to make a temporary switch to Chesterfield from Swindon on Friday.

Clarke was involved in a controversial spat with Paolo Di Canio on the County Ground touchline after the Carling Cup defeat to Southampton last week, with Di Canio telling the press the striker would never play for him again.

But Robins chairman Jeremy Wray has given Clarke a vote of confidence as he heads north to sign what is believed to be a 93-day deal.

"We have to remember that he is still a Swindon player and I wish him well," Wray told the Swindon Advertiser.

"It was obviously a well-publicised difference of opinion with the manager but the best thing Leon can do is let his football do his talking.

"I haven't lost faith he can score at this level and above."
