Bournemouth have signed striker Wes Thomas on loan from Crawley with a view to making the move permanent.

The 24-year-old has joined for an initial 93-day loan period but is eager to stay longer.

He told the club's official website: "I'm looking forward to the challenge of playing in League One and to be honest, it's something I should have done earlier in my career."

Thomas scored 19 goals for Cheltenham last season and joined the Red Devils on a free transfer at the beginning of this campaign.

However, he has been restricted largely to substitute appearances under Steve Evans and has scored only once.

The clubs have an agreement in place to make the deal permanent on January 1.
