More joy for Bentley

Morecambe produced the shock result of the day in League Two to crush Crawley 6-0 and continue Jim Bentley`s dream start to managerial life.

Danny Carlton was the hero with a superb hat-trick - which added to goals from Nick Fenton, Kevin Ellison and Laurence Wilson - that sees the Shrimps remain the early pacesetters.

After seeing Morecambe clinch their biggest ever Football League win, Bentley said: "It was a great result and I am very, very pleased because everything came together. Everyone at the club has been working really hard since we took over to get things right and we got our rewards."

He added: "I can't praise the lads enough really. We were solid at the back and always looked a threat up front and to score six against a side like Crawley, and to keep another clean sheet, was fantastic.

"It's still early days yet and we have to keep our feet on the ground but we can enjoy the moment. A lot of people have worked really hard this season to make the improvements we have made so far, but there is a long, long way to go.

"We have another tough game on Tuesday to look forward to now and we have to make sure we don't lose our focus for that game. However, we have to enjoy moments like this and look to get some more as the season goes on."

Bentley paid special tribute to hat-trick hero Carlton, saying: "I have played with Danny and always rated him highly. I think he is an outstanding talent and I always think he has a goal in him. He is a player who has worked tremendously hard and I was delighted for him."

Crawley boss Steve Evans was clearly an angry man after the game and kept his words to a premium.

He said: "I think we were quite fortunate that Morecambe didn't score 12, we were that poor.

"I had a few players out and had to make changes and from what I saw, I have a lot to think about with the squad I have. That just wasn't good enough and we all know it."
