French playmaker's transfer clause opens Arsenal door

Sochaux playmaker Marvin Martin has signed a new deal with the French league side, ending speculation over his future.

The 23-year-old's new deal will now expire in 2015.

However, a clause inserted into the deal will allow Martin to leave his contract this summer if he so wishes.

"We had good talk and we found an agreement," Martin told L'Equipe.

"The officials made a promise. Indeed, an agreement to let me leave. I will remain at Sochaux until the end to the season."

News of the deal will alert Arsenal, who were reportedly interested in signing Martin, who is seen as in the mould of former Gunners Samir Nasri.

Nasri's departure left a chasm in Arsenal forward line, but the loan signing of Yossi Benayoun will fill the position for the new season.

However, with openly a temporary deal in place, the transfer of Martin could still take place, without disrupting Benayoun's tenure at Arsenal.
