The agent of Napoli forward Ezequiel Lavezzi - a reported summer target for Liverpool - has claimed the Argentine was on Manchester City's list of potential transfer window acquisitions.
Also on the radar of City, says Giorgio de Giorgis, was Samuel Eto'o - who eventually joined Russian outfit Anzhi - while Sergio Aguero was identified as the No.1 target.
"Lavezzi, along with Eto'o, were on the list of alternatives should Manchester have failed to get Aguero, or sold Tevez," revealed De Giorgis.
"In the end it all worked in their favour."
Lavezzi will have an opportunity to show City what they are missing on Wednesday night as Napoli travel to the Etihad Stadium in the Champions League.
Liverpool, meanwhile, found themselves consistently linked with Lavezzi, 26, during the summer as the Reds scoured the market for more potent attacking options.
Whether or not Liverpool made an approach for Lavezzi remains unclear, but the Merseyside club did enjoy a particularly fruitful transfer window.
Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing, Alexander Doni, Jose Enrique, Sebastian Coates and Craig Bellamy all signed for Liverpool to aid their quest to qualify for the Champions League once more.
