Nouveau-riche Anzhi Makhachkala are keeping tabs on the situation for Fernando Torres at Chelsea, it has been claimed.

According to Cadena Ser, the Russian club could make an audacious January move for the Spanish striker, in the hope of pairing him with summer acquisition Samuel Eto'o.

The Cameroon forward is currently raking in over £300,000 with Anzhi as billionaire owner Suleyman Kerimov attempts to put his club on the map.

Meanwhile, although Torres has a somewhat poor record at Chelsea since his £50 million move to Stamford Bridge, it is unlikely the Blues would consider selling the 27-year-old.

Torres has netted only once in 23 appearances for Chelsea, and was demoted to the bench by Andre Villas-Boas against Sunderland last Saturday.

However, the former Liverpool star was instrumental for Chelsea on Wednesday night, providing assists for both goals in a 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.
