Derby are working on a deal to sign an experienced midfielder on loan ahead of the East Midlands showdown with rivals Nottingham Forest.

The Rams are light in the centre of the park following the news that James Bailey's ankle injury will rule him out until after the international break in October.

"We have made one or two enquiries for a central midfielder and we are just waiting to hear back. Something could happen for this weekend," said manager Nigel Clough.

"We have still to confirm how long James is going to be out but he certainly will not be available for the next few weeks.

Central midfield is an area we have been light in and so we are trying to do something with a loan."

One of Clough's targets is thought to be former Rams skipper Matt Oakley, who is out of the first-team picture at Leicester.
