Fulham v FC Twente;
Thurs, 15th Sep; 2005 KO
Fulham are set rest Bobby Zamora for the match, while Bryan Ruiz is cup-tied for the hosts. Aaron Hughes is out of contention after sustaining an injury against Blackburn, whilst Philippe Seneros and Dickson Etuhu are also out with illness and injury problems.
FC Twente are in great shape, with the Dutch side suffering minimal injuries so far this term and currently boasting top form.
Jol explains Ruiz scenario
Martin Jol has admitted that Bryan Ruiz was unaware of the fact that he was cup-tied when he signed for Fulham, with the striker not available for selection tonight in the Europa League as a result.
Ruiz played for FC Twente in the Champions League earlier this season, before they dropped down to the Europa League after failing to qualify into the main draw of the competition.
And Jol says that while the Costa Rica international is frustrated by the situation, it also means that there will be some reshuffling in the squad for tonight’s match.
"He thought he could play but he couldn't. It was an advantage for us because if he'd known before it maybe could have been a problem,” Jol said.
“I knew it but he thought he could play. Just after signing he said: 'I thought I could play.' I said: 'No you can't'."
Jol also revealed that Bobby Zamora is likely to be rested for the European match, with a heavy schedule set to take it’s toll on the west London club.
"It could be a problem with the likes of Bobby Zamora - a bit older, maybe not 100% fit,” Jol said over the schedule.
"Don't forget that we missed Bobby in three league matches as well, so that was a problem."
